Despite confidence, 2009 activity in search firms slumps

Executive search firms participated in nearly 30 percent fewer senior association and charitable nonprofit executive job searches in the first six months of 2009 compared to the same period last year, according to a review of senior job postings in CEO Update’s database. The decline mirrors the results of a May report on the state of the entire search industry by the Association of Executive Search Consultants, which revealed a year-over-year 35 percent drop in worldwide searches and a 38 percent decline in revenue at four global AESC member firms in the first quarter of 2009.
